Julkaistu 4.1.2018

Mr Kari Wihlman, Master of Laws, has been appointed Director-General of the Finnish Transport Agency with effect from 1 January 2018. In addition to some organisational changes, he immediately changed the composition of the Finnish Transport Agency's steering committee. The areas of responsibility of all steering committee members changed either completely or partially, and three members of the steering committee were exchanged.

The Finnish Transport Agency has four divisions led by Division Directors. Mirja Noukka became Division Director of Planning and Projects, while Rami Metsäpelto was appointed Division Director of Traffic Control and Management. Jukka Karjalainen was appointed Division Director of Infrastructure Management and Sinikka Hartonen continues as Division Director of Operations Management.

Four functions have been directly subordinated to the Director-General. Anna Jokela has been appointed Director of the new function, Communications and Customer Relations, and Laura Kuistio is Director of Legal Services and Procurement. Regional Steering is led by Director Jarmo Joutsensaari, and Raimo Tapio is Director of the new function, Development.
Smart routes and intelligent traffic

“The future transport system comprises an entity made up of transport and communication networks, services and information. These changes, taking effect at the turn of the year, have been made to meet the demands arising during this traffic revolution”, says Director-General Wihlman. “The needs of our clients – citizens, trade and industries – are still in the focus of the Finnish Transport Agency’s activities.”

The Finnish Transport Agency enables smooth, efficient and safe travel and transport. The Agency is responsible for Finland’s roads, railways and waterways, and for the development of Finland's transport system. The Agency employs about 650 professionals.
