Hailuoto Causeway
The plan is to build a causeway between Riutunkari in Oulu and Huikku on Hailuoto Island. The causeway will replace the current ferry service. The causeway will be approximately 8.4 kilometres long, and it will consist of a road running on top of an embankment and long bridges in Huikku and Riutunkari.

Luumäki-Imatra railway project
A double-track railway is being built on the line Joutseno–Imatra, replacing the current single-track railway. The current track on the line Luumäki–Joutseno is also being improved. The project also comprises renovations to reduce the maintenance backlog on the Saimaa Canal Railway Bridge, the Mansikkakoski Railway Bridge and the underpass on the old Main Road 6.

Digiroad material publication 2/2025

Digiroad Publication 2/2025 includes road link geometry obtained from the National Land Surveys National Topographic Database (KMTK) on 22.3.2025.

  • For the road network, the data for the following data types reflects the situation as of May 2025: traffic signs, pedestrian crossings, paved roads, and illuminated roads. The import of traffic signs from Tievelho is not yet comprehensive, which means some traffic signs from Tievelho have not yet been imported into Digiroad. During 2025, additional data types from Tievelho will be added to Digiroad.
  • For the street network, the data reflects the situation as of May 2025. The maintenance of street network data has utilized traffic signs provided and maintained by municipalities via the municipal interface or the Digiroad application, covering approximately 80 municipalities.
  • For the private road network, the data on access restrictions reflects the situation as of May 2025, for those private roads that have applied for municipal or ELY Centre private road subsidies or Metka support from the Finnish Forest Centre.
  • Speed limits on main roads have been updated to reflect the June 2025 status from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. For about 80 municipalities, speed limits have been updated based on traffic signs provided or maintained by the municipalities.
  • Maximum allowed mass, height, and width restrictions have been updated to match the values indicated on traffic signs at the respective locations. Sources include restriction data from the Taitorakennerekisteri (Structure Register), as well as traffic signs provided by Tievelho and municipalities.
  • Road segment address data could not be imported from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Viitekehysmuunnin for all road segments. For these segments, the carriageway value is marked as "no data".
  • In the Digiroad K data format, previous topological breaks in linear data types (e.g., speed limits) have been corrected. As a result, the K dataset now includes nearly 500 segments shorter than 50 centimeters.
  • Attribute data changes in the following data types:
    • Public transport stops: added attributes include zone information, raised platform, and road address (road, road section, distance from start of section, side)
    • Vehicle-specific restrictions: added specification details
    • Traffic signs: removed additional information fields for the main sign and supplementary plate

New Digiroad material publication 2/2025 can be downloaded from Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency`s Forwarding service for open data.
