The canal connects Vatianjärvi and Saraavesi. The 350 m-long canal was built in 1990–93. Self-service lock with remote monitoring and access from Paatela.
When approaching from below, the self-service starter cord and instructions for its use are at the waiting pier after the bridge on the right, and when approaching from above, these are at the end of the waiting pier closer to the lock on the right. After starting the self-service, follow the instructions provided on the information board and traffic lights.
Please note: At the lower end of the canal at the railway bridge, the discharge water from the rapids causes a strong lateral flow which boaters must avoid. The water discharging from the lock causes currents all the way to the waiting pier in the lower canal, so your boat must be attached to the pier carefully.
