The canal together with Varistaipale Canal connects Juojärvi and Varisvesi. The canal has two back-to-back locks (steps). The 800 m-long canal was built in 1911–14. The clearance of the swing bridge that crosses the canal is 0.6 m. Self-service lock. The lock can be controlled remotely from Varistaipale Lock.
When approaching from below, the self-service starter cord and instructions for its use are on the left side on the lower canal’s pier, when approaching from above, these are on the upper canal’s pier to the right, near the lock.
