Lahti-Heinola route
Nautical chart: J308 and J309

Permitted vessel dimensions
450.0 x 10.0 x 2.4 x 11

Mooring:
Due to the length of the lock (500 m), mooring is not necessary for the duration of locking, and your vessel can proceed slowly towards the exit gate.

Please note: At times water is run through the canal for the regulation of water levels, which causes a dangerously high flow in the canal. A red flashing light signal is used to warn canal users of higher water flow.

Difference in water level: 0.90 – 1.15 m

The canal connects Lakes Päijänne and Ruotsalainen. The 1315 m-long canal was built in 1875–78, and renewed in 1961–64. The clearance for the fixed bridge that crosses the canal is 11 metres. The Kalkkiset Lock is a self-service lock.

When approaching from below, the self-service starter cord and instructions for its use are on the lower canal pier on the left before the bridge, when approaching from above, these are on the top canal’s pier on the right. Service locks are controlled remotely from the Vääksy Canal.
