Bus stop data

The Digiroad bus stop data is a large data set that depict bus stops that are located in the street network. It also includes some bus stops that are not located in the street network geometry. For example bus stops located on hotel grounds.

NOTICE!
Maintenance of stop data in Digiroad ended on 27 March 2026, and the stop data will be transferred to the new Stop and Accessibility Data Service, PETI, by 30 April 2026.

The April dataset release (1/2026) of the Digitraffic Road Network (Digiroad) will be the last to include stop data. In accordance with the new legislation, the management of stop data for all modes of transport, as well as the use of related interfaces, will be gradually transferred to the new Stop and Accessibility Database (PETI). As a result, PETI will become the national master database for stop data.

If you are in charge of maintaining the data for bus stops, please opt to use Firefox Mozzilla or Google chrome browsers. Internet Explorer doesn't work properly and might not download or save your changes. In case of a large data set of bus stops, you can send the set to our Digiroad operator via email to [email protected] and we will take it from there. Please notice that we need the data to be on .csv format. 

The bus stop data is utilized for example by the national ticket and payment system Waltti and transport license systems and route planning services. It is updated continually. 

Forms of publication of bus stop material

  1. The most comprehensive and daily updated bus stop material for the distribution service can be downloaded from the Finnish Transport Infrastucture Agency`s mapservice Suomen Väylät. The data includes feature information maintained by Digiroad, including Equipment information relevant to passenger information, such as reported canopy stops and accessibility information.
  2. The data in GTFS format is uploaded weekly. It is in WGS84 coordinate system and can be downloaded here.
  3. A version including municipality codes (field called stop_desc field) has been tailored for the needs of Waltti system and it can be downloaded here. 
  4. Bus stop material can be downloaded from the Digiroad distribution  shp. and geopackage form. The status of the bus stops in the package represents the date of material removal. Thus, the status does not represent the latest removal.
  5. Separate release of bus stop material (in tabular form, csv) directly from the maintenance application is published once a week on Mondays. The data that is not updated in Traficom's traffic license system Vallu has been cut out. This applies to some stop characteristics.

  • Below is a list of fields included in the CSV file. Due to information security issues the bus stop .csv export no longer includes user-ID. In the MODIFIED_BY column all bus stops have the information "OTH".
