– procurement decision made

21.11.2011 The Finnish Transport Agency has made the decision to procure the funding, construction and maintenance of the motorway E18 Koskenkylä-Kotka from an infrastructure company owned by Meridiam Infrastructure Projects S.á.r.l, Keskinäinen Eläkevakuutusyhtiö Ilmarinen, YIT and Destia. The project will be implemented according to the lifecycle model.

The actual service agreement is planned to be signed in December. The financial arrangements must be concluded before a final agreement can be entered. The Finnish Transport Agency has been granted authority to enter an agreement amounting to 650 million euros.

The construction will start immediately

For the motorway to be completed within the estimated time, the Finnish Transport Agency has agreed with the construction companies YIT and Destia to start the construction work before the winter sets in. The motorway is estimated to open partly for traffic already in 2013 and it will be completed in 2014. All in all the road arrangements should be completed by the end of 2015. The agreement period containing the maintenance and funding will extend to 2026.

The work will primarily start in the Ahvenkoski, Pyhtää and Kotka areas, where traffic arrangements will have to be made. Trees and stubs will be removed along the whole route.
