13 December 2012 - The Finnish Government today announced the appointment of Mr Antti Vehviläinen, Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, as Director-General of the Finnish Transport Agency for the period 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2017.
Mr Vehviläinen transfers to the Transport Agency from Stora Enso Oyj, from the position of Vice President, Logistics, which he has held since 1993.
Mr Vehviläinen has extensive experience of transport. He has acted as rapporteur for the Ministry and served in the boards, committees and working groups of unincorporated state enterprises and state-owned companies operating in the transport sector. He has been Chair to the Advisory Board of the Transport Agency since the Agency was established.
The Finnish Transport Agency began operating at the start of 2010, when six agencies in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications merged into two new entities, the Transport Agency and the Transport Safety Agency, or Trafi.
The mandate of the Transport Agency covers the entire transport system and all modes of transport, excluding aviation. Its mission is to ensure that Finland has an effective, energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and safe transport system serving the travel and transport needs of people and businesses.
