Timber floating lock, contact the operating personnel when you approach the lock during timber floating to get instructions on a safe waiting point. Both when travelling upwards and downwards, boaters must wait for their turn in the lock on the right hand side in the timber floating lines. Timber bundles are processed on the other side of the fairway. The lock’s actual waiting piers cannot be used for waiting while timber floating is in progress.
Use of the canal is controlled by the Joensuu Canal remote control centre. VHF call on channel 11 (or 16), Kuurna Canal. If your vessel does not have communication equipment, the locking request is made by pulling on the cords at the lock’s top and lower canal ends, located to the right in the direction of travel.
