The Finnish Transport Agency to sign agreement for four more icebreakers in addition to the five icebreakers already employed, to ensure smooth winter navigation

The Finnish Transport Agency has a long-term contract for five conventional icebreakers, which form the basis for winter navigation assistance and it will sign an agreement for four additional icebreakers, to be prepared for more demanding winter conditions.

Today the Finnish Transport Agency has signed an agreement with Arctia Offshore Ltd about two multi-purpose icebreakers, Nordica and Fennica, and with Alfons Håkans Oy about one icebreaker, Zeus. Both agreements are valid until spring 2016 and they include a two-year option. In addition to that the Finnish Transport Agency will enter a similar agreement about a large Swedish icebreaker in the near future.

The Finnish Transport Agency is tasked with public office duties and the procurement associated with the assistance of winter navigation as well with the national coordination, development and guidance thereof.
