Significant disruptions to commuter train services 24.6–5.8.: Some of the train services will not run between Helsinki and Pasila

Track works to improve the functionality and efficiency of Helsinki railway yard will affect Helsinki Region Transport’s (HSL) commuter train services from June to August 2018. The outermost track pairs in the railway yard will alternately be taken out of service. These track works will affect the departure tracks in Pasila. More detailed information about the changed timetables will be available at a later date via HSL’s Journey Planner (www.reittiopas.fi) and VR’s search function (www.vr.fi).

24.6.– 17.7.The changes in I, P, N and K-train services will begin on 24.6 at 22:00 and end on 17.7 at 5:00.

Commuter train services running towards Helsinki:

  • During the day, Pasila will be the end station for the K- and N-trains from Kerava.
  • At night, I-, N-, P- and T-train services will run as usual to Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • During the day, Pasila will be the end station for P-trains departing from the airport. I-train services will run as usual to Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • Other commuter train and long-distance train services will run as usual.

Passengers travelling to Helsinki may change trains either in Pasila or earlier in Tikkurila.

Commuter train services running away from Helsinki:

  • During the day, Pasila will be the end station for the K and N-trains to Kerava.
  • At night, I-, N-, P- and T-trains will depart as usual from Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • I-trains to the airport will depart from Pasila station during the daytime.
  • P-trains to the airport will depart as usual from Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • Other commuter train and long-distance train services will run as usual.

17.7. – 5.8. The changes in L, A, P and I-train services will begin on 17.7. at 23:00 and end on 5.8. at 5:00.

Commuter train services running towards Helsinki:

  • During the day, Pasila will be the end station of I-trains departing from the airport. P-train services will run as usual from the airport to Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • At night, A-, I-, L- and P-train services will run as usual to Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • A-trains will run less frequently, at 30-minute intervals, all the way to Helsinki.
  • A- and L-trains will not stop at Ilmala station. I-trains will stop at Ilmala station as usual during the daytime.
  • Other commuter train and long-distance train services will run as usual.

Passengers travelling to Helsinki may change trains either in Pasila or earlier in Huopalahti.

Commuter train services running away from Helsinki:

  • P-trains to the airport will depart from Pasila station during the daytime. I-trains to the airport will depart as usual from Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • At night, A-, I-, L- and P-trains will depart as usual from Helsinki Central Railway Station.
  • A-trains will run less frequently, at 30-minute intervals, from Helsinki.
  • A- and L-trains will not stop at Ilmala station. During the day, P-trains will stop at Ilmala station as usual.
  • Other commuter train and long-distance train services will run as usual.

The Finnish Transport Agency’s project to improve the functionality and efficiency of Helsinki railway yard (HELRA) is part of the more extensive development of the railway network in southern Finland. The project comprises reorganising of the track layout of Helsinki railway yard so that it better meets the needs of the growing traffic volumes. The HELRA project aims to improve the efficiency of Helsinki railway yard and reduce the vulnerability to disruptions. Upon completion, the train capacity between Helsinki and Pasila may be increased from 74 trains to nearly 90 trains per hour. This means an increase of 200 trains per day. The estimated cost for the changed layout of the railway yard is approx. 60 million euro. The construction planning will receive TEN-T financing. The HELRA project will be completed in 2020.
