The canal connects Palovesi and Vankavesi. The 315 m-long canal was built in 1852-54. The clearance of the swing bring that crosses the canal is 1.0 metre (or about 2.1 metres when the water is at its lowest level.

The canal is manned. When approaching from below, the locking call point is located at the beginning of the lower canal to the right, and when approaching from above, these are at the waiting pier at the beginning of the upper canal.
