Smart and sustainable transport in Finland – the sustainability report of the Finnish Transport Agency 2016 has been published

Published 10.5.2017

The Finnish Transport Agency has published its second sustainability report on the Agency's website. The main theme of 2016 was sustainable transport with an emphasis on the targets for reducing transport emissions and the action plan to reduce the maintenance backlog of the transport network. The Finnish Transport Agency continues to meet these challenges by renewing its operating methods – through trials, collecting data, digitalisation, automation and new technology. It is the Agency's task to ensure that the Finnish transport network will continue to serve its citizens and business life for at least another century.

The report comprises the actions taken in 2016 with respect to some key sustainability themes. As a whole, sustainability at the Finnish Transport Agency has been summed up in the following themes:

  • For the customer
  • Contributing and supporting societal growth
  • More sustainable mobility, transport and infrastructure management
  • Safety first
  • Responsible procurement and financial management
  • Personnel as an asset

The sustainability report has received positive feedback. “Our goal has been to give our stakeholders more thorough information about the Finnish Transport Agency. Based on the feedback from those who have read the report, we have successfully met this goal,” says Sustainability Expert Katri Kallio and continues, “We hope that the report will reach even more readers, now that it has also been published on the web.”
