Increased transport on main roads last year

Last year, transport on the main roads grew by about 1.7 per cent compared to 2015. Heavy-duty transport saw the most significant growth, 3.3 percent.

The increase in heavy-duty transport, about 5 per cent, happened most rapidly in the area covered by the ELY Centre for Uusimaa. The upswing was noticed throughout the entire country in April and May.

The share of light-duty vehicles (cars and vans) on main roads increased by about 1.5 per cent. From a regional perspective, the largest growth, about 3.1 per cent, took place in Lapland. In Southeastern Finland, there was a minor decline of 0.7 per cent.

Data about traffic on main roads is obtained from automatic traffic counting systems (LAM).
