Finnish speaker at 1st European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving

Published 27.03.2017

The Finnish trials of intelligent transport systems and solutions for automated driving have caught the attention of other EU member countries. Representatives of the six member countries that have implemented the most advanced intelligent transport solutions have been asked to speak at the 1st European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving to be held in Brussels. Finland will be represented by Antti Vehviläinen, Director General of the Finnish Transport Agency.

"In Finland, the development of intelligent transport is incorporated in the national strategy, in which legislation, development efforts and collaboration between the public and private sectors pave the way for transport automation", says Antti Vehviläinen, Director General of the Finnish Transport Agency.

This prominent position has been enabled by Finnish legislation, which allows automated cars to drive on public roads among other traffic. The authorities also promote practical trials: "The Finnish Transport Agency is building a public test platform on Main Road 21 in Muonio, where testers are offered a 5G test network and exact positioning services, among other things", says Vehviläinen. The arctic conditions makes this test area stand out from all the others.

Connected and Automated Driving Together, shaping the future will be held from 3–4 April 2017. The conference will be attended by EU member countries, representatives of the public and private transport sectors, the transport industry and researchers in this field.  http://connectedautomateddriving.eu/conference/
